Following his public incident with Rafael Benitez, Everton full-back is all set to join Steven Gerard’s Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have agreed upon a £25 million contract to sign Everton full-back Lucas Digne, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

Following his departure from Barcelona in 2018, the 28-year-old spent three-and-a-half years at Goodison Park. He made 127 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions throughout this period.

However, Digne fell down the pecking order since his spat with Rafael Benitez in December last year. Moreover, Chelsea have also been linked with the defender for some time now.

Nevertheless, it has been reported that Digne will undergo a medical examination on January 12. Everton and Aston Villa have reached a conclusion which states the transfer value of £25 million.

Chelsea were highly interested in signing the left-back but finally made the decision to quit the chase. The Blues are now said to be focused on calling back Emerson from his loan spell with Lyon.

Digne, meanwhile, will be available for Steven Gerard for his debut alongside Philippe Coutinho. Both stars might make their first appearance as Villa meets Manchester United on Saturday.

In addition, rumours suggested that Newcastle was also looking for Digne. Though the Frenchman has made up his mind and Villa will announce his arrival soon.
