Cristiano Ronaldo scored a mouth-opening goal the last time he faced Porto in the Champions League in 2009.
It has been almost 11 years since Ronaldo last faced Porto in the Champions League. However, there is no doubt that Portistas still remember the last time Cristiano stepped onto the pitch at Estadio do Dragao.
Manchester United and Porto had tied the first leg match with a 2-2 result and the Red Devils needed a win to make it through to the semi-finals. Naturally, Cristiano Ronaldo took charge and scored United’s only goal of the night around the sixth-minute mark.
The Portuguese forward and his team were the title holders and therefore had a lot to prove. However, Cristiano has never let pressure break him down, and that April night proved it once again. Ronaldo scored one of the best goals of his career, a stunning rocket from 40 yards out. The sensational finisher would go on to win the Puskas Award that year for his incredible effort. In fact, Cris had the honor of becoming the first recipient of this important award.
Now with Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo will try and repeat the deed this Wednesday night. The Bianconeri face the Portuguese champions at the Champions League’s Round of 16 in Porto. Since Cristiano has scored four goals at this UCL edition, one can only wonder: will history repeat itself?
