Mesut Ozil made his return to football this Tuesday and already showed his playmaker skills for Fenerbahce.

It had been 332 days since we last saw Mesut Ozil step out onto the football pitch. The German-made his last appearance for Arsenal on March 7th, 2020 when he started against West Ham in the Premier League. Almost a year later, the midfielder made his debut for Fenerbahce and already started showing the influence he can have on the team.

This Tuesday afternoon, Fenerbahce were tied 1-1 against Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig when Erol Bulut made a decision that would delight all Yellow Canary fans. Mesut Ozil entered the pitch in the 77th minute of the match to replace Thiam, who had scored the first goal.

Naturally, it didn’t take long for the playmaker to show once again what he’s all about. Just 11 minutes after entering the pitch, Ozil set up Ferdi Kadioglu in the right-wing with a long pass. The young midfielder then proceeded to put a dangerous cross in the box which led to an own-goal from Hatayspor’s defender Billong.

Fenerbahce went on to win the game after this late goal and are now undisputed leaders in the league, four points above rivals Besiktas. Check-out below Ozil’s first touch for the Turkish side which helped secure the winning goal.
