AC Milan are edging closer to signing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud this summer on a reported €2 million transfer deal.

Olivier Giroud has traveled to Italy for a medical to complete his move to AC Milan.

The 34-year-old landed in Italy on Thursday and was seen heading to his medical in Milan on Friday morning. He is expected to sign a two-year deal until 2023.

Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini confirmed Giroud’s imminent arrival earlier this week after reports broke out claiming the Serie A club had struck a reported agreement with Chelsea worth €2 million.

The Blues forced Milan’s hand in negotiations by using an option in Giroud’s contract to extend it by another 12 months. The Rossoneri, therefore, had to settle on a transfer fee with Chelsea first.

But now the clubs have reached an agreement, Giroud has got the green light to complete his move to Italy.

The former Arsenal striker leaves Chelsea with 39 goals and 14 assists under his belt in 119 appearances. He won four trophies at Stamford Bridge, including the Europa League and Champions League.

A lack of regular opportunities under Blues coach Thomas Tuchel last season, however, has prompted Giroud to change clubs for next season.

He becomes the second Chelsea player to join Milan this summer after Fikayo Tomori completed a permanent €28m move following a successful loan stint. Hakim Ziyech and Tiemoue Bakayoko are also on the Italian side’s radar.
