Atletico Madrid lost against Levante this Saturday afternoon at the Wanda Metropolitano for La Liga.

It seems like the Colchoneros failed to learn their lesson when it comes to Levante. After a 1-1 tie against the Granotas on Wednesday, Diego Simeone’s side did even worse this time and lost their second match of the season.

Atletico Madrid shot the ball a total of 28 times during the 90 minutes and hit the target 11 times. However, they faced a very inspired Dani Cardenas who managed to stop any attempt Atleti sent his way. In fact, this was only the young keeper’s second appearance of the season. Nevertheless, Cardenas already made quite an impact and gave Aitor Fernandez a run for his money.

Levante opened the score with a somewhat lucky goal from Jose Luis Morales. The Spanish midfielder shot the ball from the start of the box and saw it get deflected by Felipe and misleading Jan Oblak.

Nevertheless, one of the best moments of the match came in the last minute as Levante scored once again. After a fantastic defensive performance from the Granotas, all they had to do was clear Llorente’s final effort to help Atletico secure a point. Jan Oblak went over to Levante’s box to try and help his team’s chances in the last minute of the fixture.

However, Jorge de Frutos intercepted Marcos Llorente’s cross and carried the ball to the halfway line. With no one in goal to stop the Spanish forward, de Frutos took a leap of faith and shot the ball towards the goal right away.

Levante have now climbed to the eighth spot in La Liga, while Atletico failed to increase their lead over local rivals Real Madrid.
