The world’s most expensive player suffered another potentially serious injury in these heartbreaking scenes.
A tearful Neymar had to be stretchered off with a potentially serious injury problem during Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 defeat to Lyon on Sunday night.
The 28-year-old fell victim to a horrendous challenge from fellow Brazilian Thiago Mendes during injury-time and was unable to get back on his feet. PSG’s medical staff then carried him down the tunnel on a stretcher.
Mendes, meanwhile, got a straight red card after referee Benoit Bastien reviewed his challenge on the VAR screens.
Incidentally, Neymar was the most fouled player at the Parc des Princes after being struck six times by the opposition. Marco Verratti was also fouled five times before he came off in the second half.
Lyon stars Lucas Paqueta, Memphis Depay, and Karl Toko Ekambi were fouled only twice in comparison.
Reports have suggested Neymar suffered a severe sprain on his left ankle, but Thomas Tuchel refused to state anything until the Brazilian has undergone tests.
“He’s with the physio and the doctors and we have to wait for the tests tomorrow (Monday),” the PSG boss told Telefoot as quoted in the Mirror.
Midfielder Rafinha added: “I saw Neymar after the game and he was calm and composed. Now we’re going to wait for the test results.”
Neymar has suffered a series of ankle and foot injuries since he joined PSG from Barcelona in 2017 for a world-record fee of €220m.
Tino Kadewere, meanwhile, scored the only goal of the game to condemn PSG to a 1-0 defeat. The Parisians have dropped to third in Ligue 1 behind new table-toppers Lille and second-placed Lyon.
