It happened right before the last match of the season at Etihad Stadium, Manchester City bid farewell to Sergio Aguero as a legend.
Sergio Aguero is hands down one of Manchester City’s biggest legends, if not the biggest in the club’s history. Ever since he came from Atletico Madrid, the man has done nothing but perform at the highest level. Over the last decade, he was always fighting for the goal-scoring title and reached a level of performance that few other players in the tournament could reach. Long after he leaves, his name will be associated with the likes of other legends such as Thierry Henry, Eric Cantona, Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Wayne Rooney.
‘Kun’ is already at their level and today he gets what he deserves. As part of the farewell package he is getting, the Argentine got a standing ovation with all the club’s staff waiting for him on the pitch to say goodbye in front of the crowd at Etihad Stadium. In today’s match, ‘Kun’ reluctantly starts from the bench but he will definitely get his chance to play against Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton. We will go through some of Aguero’s achievements and the legacy he leaves at the club.
That crazy day against QPR.
Out of all the achievements Sergio Aguero got for Manchester City, the very first Premier League title has his name written all over it. It was a wild day for football fans in general during the 2011-12 season. Both clubs from Manchester were trying to win the title and Aguero was there to score the winning goal. We all remember where we were when the Argentine legend scored that goal that broke the hearts of at least half of the city of Manchester.
The club is already planning on making a statue in his honor outside Etihad Stadium and that moment would be perfect to recreate. ‘Kun’ is the man who single-handedly transformed the Citizens into the amazing football club they are today. The first truly great transfer that the English club made when the folks from Abu Dhabi took over. Now, Aguero decides to leave because Manchester City chose to bring another striker to the club. He will possibly play alongside Leo Messi at FC Barcelona next season. Like his friend, ‘Kun’ will leave as the legend that he is.
