Axel Tuanzebe scored his debut goal for Manchester United against Real Sociedad but it was annulled by VAR.

Manchester United’s center-back Axel Tuanzebe has had some tough moments this season. In fact, the 23-year-old defender even became the subject of racial abuse back in January but received a wave of support from his teammates and fans.

Since that terrible incident, Tuanzebe had only been on the pitch against Everton, being sidelined for United’s last four matches. Nevertheless, Solskjaer gave the center-back a chance to play in the midfield against Real Sociedad this Thursday. In fact, it could’ve been a dream night for Tuanzebe in the Europa League as he netted his first goal for the Red Devils.

However, the defender’s party got spoiled by his teammate Victor Lindelof and the VAR’s decision. As Tuanzebe scored a good header, the Sweden international leaped to try and reach the aerial ball. Lindelof ended up striking his opponent with a ‘flying knee’, a Muay Thai move often used in combat sports.

Although the center-back had no intention of hitting his opponent in the face, VAR ended up cancelling the referee’s initial decision. Therefore, Axel Tuanzebe will have to wait for another opportunity to score his debut goal for Manchester United.

Despite the goalless draw, the Red Devils ended up making it through to the Europa League’s Round of 16. In the first leg, the Manchester side scored four goals against Real Sociedad and will now face AC Milan in the next round.
