Kai Havertz finally justified the €90 million of his transfer, he scored a brilliant hat-trick against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup this evening.

There was so much pressure on Kai Havertz after his transfer to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen. The Blues paid a steep €90 million and he came as the most expensive player in a busy transfer window. Other stars have already made their debut this season with the club and delivered. But Kai hadn’t left a great impression in the matches he played until today.

Chelsea faced Barnsley in the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge, an accessible rival for one of the most prestigious rosters in Europe. Although the match was too easy for Frank Lampard’s squad, Havertz made an impression with the first senior hat-trick of his career. Plus, he also assisted Ross Barkley in a goal.

Havertz and Abraham, a deadly duo.

Nobody expected to get a new association between two players who never played together in an official match before. Kai Havertz found a new offensive partner in Tammy Abraham, who is one of the Blues’ most hyped academy products.

For the first goal, the English striker delivered a ‘screen’ assist to Havertz that left him alone in front of the goalkeeper. It seemed like an easy goal but Abraham’s movement was key for it to happen. In football vernacular, Abraham’s action is known as a ‘dummy’. Not too long after that, the striker scored his own goal after a defensive mistake from the Barnsley defense. Half-time came with a 2-0 result for Chelsea but more in store for us.

Kai’s hat-trick and Barkley’s goal.

After the break, Kai Havertz proved he can also help on the defensive end. He recovered a ball on Barnsley’s box and left Ross Barkley to pick up the spoils. After that, it was time to confirm the Havertz/Abraham newly found partnership. Chelsea fans went bananas with comparisons to the Drogba/Lampard days after the two goals Kai scored.

Tammy seemed in his element when he assisted the German star in both of them. To finish things off, Giroud came in from the bench and got a beautiful assist from Ben Chilwell. The English full-back made his debut with the club alongside Thiago Silva tonight. Chelsea gets a convincing 6-0 victory and instills fear in everybody with Havertz’s presentation. We are not ready for what the Blues can accomplish this season.
