The Gunners center-back had a disastrous start to his comeback game against Southampton by scoring an own goal.

Gabriel had missed Arsenal’s last seven games through a positive COVID-19 test and was left to probably wish he skipped the trip to Southampton as well.

The Brazilian, who arrived on a €26m deal from Lille last summer, put the ball into the back of his own net in only the 24th-minute in Saturday afternoon’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at St. Mary’s.

Tottenham academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters fired a dangerous shot across Cedric’s legs. The ball then took a deflection off Gabriel and into the Arsenal goal to mark a nightmare return for the 23-year-old.

The scoreline has remained 1-0 to Southampton ahead of half-time.
