A bizarre incident in Argentina’s first-tier league left several spectators coated in a dead man’s ashes.

A supporter of Argentinian side Racing scattered his dead friend’s ashes from the top tier of El Cilindro Stadium on Tuesday.

Following two months of summer break, Racing were playing their first game of the season when the bizarre incident happened.

A Twitter user shared a photo of a box from Burzaco Crematorium, claiming it had fallen on her after being showered with its content.

Another Tweet shows video footage of the fan scattering the ashes from the top tier of El Cilindro Stadium. The box’s photo reveals the ashes belonged to Alejandro Fabian Alvarez, who passed away on February 21.

This is not the first time a Racing fan tries to share a special football moment with a dead loved one. In 2019, Gabriel Aranda celebrated Racing’s Superliga triumph while holding his grandfather’s skull in his hand.

“I brought my grandfather, Valentin. I took him out of his vault for the whole time Racing were playing,” Aranda told TNT Sports. “He is my good luck charm. He is proud because I took him out.”

What is next for Racing?

Racing will face River Plate in the Primera Division on Sunday. La Academia made a strong start to the new campaign by beating Argentinos Juniors on Wednesday. On the other hand, River Plate defeated Newell’s 2-0 in their season opener two days before.
