The duo formed by Kevin De Beuyne and Phil Foden was the deciding factor in Manchester City’s complicated win against Wolves.

Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden proved they can become one of the best midfield duos in the Premier League this season. Manchester City was coming from two consecutive defeats against Wolves during last season’s Premier League.

Nuno’s squad delivered memorable performances against Pep Guardiola’s side with stellar performances from Raul Jimenez. Throughout that season, the Citizens suffered from a lack of defenders due to injuries but today was different.

Pep decided to sign Nathan Ake from AFC Bournemouth and he got John Stones back on the starting eleven. All the Citizens needed was to deliver from the midfield going forward and not allow the Wolves’ offensive power to intimidate them. The duo formed by De Bruyne and Foden in midfield was the decisive factor in Pep Guardiola’s return to victory against Wolverhampton.

The MVP showed up for City.

Winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year Award gives the recipient a certain level of pressure that sometimes is not welcomed. But De Bruyne’s case is the complete opposite, he relishes the chance to feel that pressure. Very few will argue that he is the current top midfielder in the world of football.

Today was a perfect test against Wolves, which is the one club they couldn’t defeat last season in the Premier League. Kevin made an impact early in the first half by getting a penalty in his favor and scoring it from the spot. After that, he led the Citizens to the second goal of the evening by setting up a beautiful collective effort finished by Phil Foden.

He was involved in every single goal scored in this game, even the one that Wolves scored during the second half. Kevin suffered a nutmeg from Podence before Raul Jimenez pulled one back for his side. However, De Bruyne got his revenge in the ball recovery right before Gabriel Jesus’ decisive third goal for City. A rounded performance from the best midfielder in the world, and the best player in English football today.
