Joao Felix has had a great start to the season. The 21-year-old forward has scored eight goals and three assists on 14 matches for Atletico de Madrid, leaving him one goal away from matching last season’s efforts.
The Portuguese youngster raised havoc at Benfica in 2018, scoring 15 goals in 26 matches at Liga NOS. After a season of slow adaption to Atletico’s style of play, Joao Felix seems to have found his way around.
His recent performances have earned him a nomination for UEFA’s Team of the Year 2020. After being dubbed as a ‘flop’ last season, Felix has received high praises from one of the Colchonero’s legends.
The former Golden Boy’s performance against Bayern Munich last Tuesday didn’t go unnoticed. Although it wasn’t enough to earn them the three points, Felix’s partnership with Carrasco produced some impressive moments throughout the 90 minutes.
It seems Joao Felix has inherited Cristiano’s excitement for European competitions. “All my friends and family know that my biggest wish is to win a Champions League,” he told Esporte Interativo.
As you can see below, the Portuguese’s back-heel passes and first touch skills make it hard not to draw a comparison with Ronaldo.
