Ex-Leicester boss Micky Adams explained how the ageless Vardy remains at the top of his game and expects him to continue doing so for another two years.

Jamie Vardy is part of a growing trend of aging footballers still capable of competing at the highest level alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 33-year-old won his first Premier League Golden Boot award this season on an impressive 23 goals, helping secure Leicester City a fifth-place finish and Europa League football for 2020/21.

A key part behind Vardy’s success in his unorthodox lifestyle. He resorts to several unique methods to keep his devastating pace and large stamina alive, including drinking a glass of port the night before games and many energy drinks on match days.

Now Adams, who coached Leicester between 2002 and 2004, is impressed despite emphasizing on the club’s need to find a long-term replacement.

“Some of the older players are probably coming to the end of the road – and all teams have to look at bringing in bigger and better options,” Adams told the Daily Star.

“Vardy has still got that pace and terrifies defenders. Who is to say he can’t go on for another two years?

“The thing is, long term, it’ll be something that they do need to address.

“What’s helped Vardy massively is the realization that England duty wasn’t doing him any favors. Traveling around the world was always going to be detrimental to his career now. He took a pragmatic view and realized he needed to make that tough call to prolong his career.

“I think he’s a freak in many respects. He doesn’t put any weight on and it’s been well documented about how he’s refueled in the past with energy drinks.”

Leicester will certainly hope Vardy is at the top of his game for their Premier League season opener away to West Brom on September 12.
