The Red Devils are ready to enter the market in January, with a Dutch star being their main target.

Virgil van Dijk has offered advice to Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo over a possible move to Manchester United.

Gakpo has scored three goals for the Oranje in Qatar, continuing his brilliant form at PSV before the tournament.

Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, reports around Gakpo’s possible move to Old Trafford have intensified.

The Red Devils were keen to make a bid for the 23-year-old in the summer. But moves for Antony, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro forced them to delay the transfer.

Gakpo’s current form, however, might ignite a transfer race for the Dutchman. Real Madrid have emerged as possible suitors for the striker, with Van Dijk insisting moving to Santiago Bernabeu might be a better “next step” for his teammate.

“Are Manchester United and Real Madrid on the same level? No disrespect, not at all,” he said.

“I definitely think he has that next step in him. I definitely feel like it could happen, whether that is in the winter or the summer or next year, time will tell.

“He is a great boy who works hard, very talented and definitely there is more in him. We are so pleased he is doing so well for us. Long may it continue.”
