Roy Keane slammed Virgil van Dijk for his ‘arrogance’ after the Liverpool captain’s remarks about Manchester United.

Virgil van Dijk is fine with Roy Keane’s comments after Liverpool’s goalless draw with Manchester United.

After Sunday’s 0-0 draw, Van Dijk claimed that Liverpool were the only team that tried to win the game. This led an unimpressed Keane to criticize the Dutch defender for his ‘arrogance’.

“Dissing United. He is playing for a club who have won one title in 30 years,” the former United captain retorted on Sky Sports.

“He’s saying only one team wanted to win, and United are buzzing with a point?”

Van Dijk insists his comments had ‘no arrogance’

In response to Keane’s remarks, Van Dijk said: “I like Roy Keane, if he said that then it’s fine.

“He is Man United through and through and I understand he could react like that but I felt what I said and there is absolutely no arrogance in that.

In the match itself, Liverpool had 34 shots compared to United’s six. Jurgen Klopp’s side held 69% of the possession, but couldn’t break through the away defense at Anfield with only eight of their shots on target.

“Everyone who watched the game probably felt the same [as me],” Van Dijk said of the 0-0 draw.

“What do you guys [the press] all think? We move on. We had the opportunity and we couldn’t score and that’s the frustrating part.

“They [United] are not in the best situation, and if you come here after you have lost last year with a big number [7-0] you are going to be more than happy with a point.

“Everyone could see that. You could see what their game plan was and what we tried to do and I felt what I said was right and we move on. I think we did everything to try to win the game. Maybe trying to force it a little bit at times and we could have made a better decision but it was hard to break the low block down, and unfortunately, we didn’t win.”

As a result of the draw, Liverpool slipped down to second in the Premier League, one point behind leaders Arsenal.

The Reds will play again on Wednesday at home to West Ham in a quarter-final EFL Cup tie.
