Virgil van Dijk has chosen to remain optimistic after his latest setback which has forced him for a prolonged stay on the sidelines.
Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk sustained a potentially season-ending injury during the trip to Everton on Saturday.
It was confirmed on the weekend that the commanding center-back had damaged his knee ligaments and will require surgery, with a rehabilitation program to follow soon after.
The medical report released by the club failed to mention the duration of his absence. However, it is estimated that it could take between six and nine months before the Dutchman returns to full fitness.
Melancholy has since taken over among the Liverpool faithful, with ex-Reds Jamie Carragher recently suggesting that the team could fail to defend their league crown without one of their most reliable players.
Van Dijk, on the other hand, remains positive in times of distress as he begins his long journey back to action.
He wrote in a Twitter post: “I’m now fully focused on my recovery and will do everything I can to be back as quickly as possible.
“Despite the obvious disappointment, I’m a firm believer that within difficultly lies opportunity and with God’s help I’m going to make sure I return better, fitter, and stronger than ever before.
“In football, as in life, I believe everything happens for a reason and it’s important to try and keep level headed whether going through the highs or the lows. With the support of my wife, kids, family, and everyone at Liverpool, I’m ready for the challenge ahead.”
