The Reds have signed a new midfielder as their first summer recruitment.
Virgil van Dijk backs Liverpool to have more “quality additions” to their squad this summer.
Liverpool completed a £35 million move for Alexis Mac Allister as their first summer signing last week. The Argentine international arrives at Anfield after spending a fantastic season at Brighton, helping the Seagulls finish sixth in the Premier League.
“He is a very good player,” Van Dijk said on Wednesday. “Obviously, we have played against him many times [with Liverpool] and also with Holland against Argentina.
“He will definitely be a big addition and something we need in order to be back where we all want it to be.”
Van Dijk faced Mac Allister when Argentina defeated Netherlands in the World Cup quarter-finals last year. The Brighton player attracted interest from a host of elite sides after the tournament, but the Reds moved quickly to complete his signing.
“It’s a good start to the transfer window,” Van Dijk added. “Hopefully, we get a couple more quality additions and he is definitely one of the players who can make hopefully a difference for us in the next couple of years.”
Mac Allister made 35 EPL appearances for Brighton last season, scoring ten times.
