Paul Pogba could be on his way out of Manchester United if they sign Donny Van de Beek, says Danny Murphy.
Donny Van de Beek could be Manchester United’s first signing of the summer.
Multiple reliable sources have confirmed the Red Devils have agreed a €40m deal with Ajax for the midfielder.
The deal is expected to be announced in the coming days with Van de Beek also eager to play in the Premier League.
Many United fans are now deep in thoughts about the prospect of a midfield trip boasting Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and the incoming Dutchman.
But Danny Murphy thinks it might not work. Similar to both United stars, Van de Beek is an attacking minded midfielder.
Hence, the Talksport pundit thinks Paul Pogba could be out of United if the Ajax man eventually joins the club.
Speaking on Monday’s White and Sawyer, Murphy said: “I’m just thinking about where Van de Beek is going to play…
“Playing with Fernandes and Pogba? Do you really think that?”
“Do you know what I think? I think that Pogba could be off. That signing to me says Pogba is off.”
Paul Pogba’s future at the club is still in doubt but Mino Raiola recently said the Frenchman will remain at Old Trafford this summer. But Murphy isn’t so sure that would happen.
“I don’t know why, something just tells me…”
“I know he can play as a number six, in the holding role… but he’s not a defensive midfielder as such.”
“He likes to get in the box and score a goal, we’ve seen that. He’s technically good and he’s an all-round, energetic box-to-box midfielder.”
“So why would you buy a player who is an attacking midfielder when you’ve already got two? You can’t play them all!”
After no lack of activity in the transfer window so far, Van de Beek represents a big coup for the Red Devils.
