Donny Van de Beek says he is eager to start getting regular minutes at Manchester United in what is a subtle message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Donny van de Beek knows his time is ‘coming’ at Manchester United as the Netherlands goalscorer preached patience following his lack of game time at club level.
The Dutchman is yet to start a Premier League game for United since joining from Ajax in a 44m deal.
Van de Beek has only seen 75 minutes of Premier League action and has scored once in that span of time.
Elsewhere, he has started twice in the Champions League and twice in the Carabao Cup.
Many have called for United boss Ole Solskjaer to give the player more minutes under his belt to no avail. Just recently, Red Devils’ legend Patrice Evra and the player’s agent were in a heated row of words over this issue.
The player was asked about his situation at Old Trafford after scoring in the Netherlands’ 1-1 friendly draw with Spain on Wednesday.
Van de Beek stressed that he was ‘happy’ and that he has already shown what he can bring to Manchester United.
“It sounds cliche for me to say this, because of course I would have liked to play more, but I really enjoy being in a nice team. I am simply received very well and helped by everyone,” Van de Beek told NOS.
“I’m a patient person, but of course you go there to play as much as possible. I also think – in the minutes that I have made, in the times that I have come in – I have shown that I can add something to the team.”
Solskajer has so far preferred a midfield trio of McTominay and Fred playing behind Fernandes. Van de Beek reveals his conversation with the United boss following his lack of game time.
He added: “What does he [Solskjaer] say to me? That I have to be patient, but also that I just have to continue with what I am doing.
“And that he’s seen that I have a good impact when I come into the field. My time is definitely coming. And when those opportunities come, I have to be there.”
