A former Old Trafford icon thinks that Donny van de Beek might just be leaning towards an exit from Manchester United.

Donny van de Beek’s future at Manchester United gradually seems to degrade according to Dimitar Berbatov. Instead, he says that the Premier League club could make use of that money because the £35 million midfielder “looks lost”.

In September 2020, United signed Van de Beek with a five-year deal as he graduated from Ajax senior team. At that time, it was pretty clear that the 24-year-old possessed exciting abilities as a playmaker.

However, since joining United, Van de Beek could not build a regular spot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team. This in turn has raised many queries regarding his future at Old Trafford.

Berbatov is of the opinion that the Dutchman can be slipped into the transfer list next year unless his situation evolves positively. The ex-Man Utd striker told Betfair: “Van de Beek looks lost. He is running out of time to save his United career.”

“He started against Young Boys but was substituted at half-time. This has been the story of his time at the club. If he plays, he’s brought off. If he comes on, he gets 10 minutes. He never gets the chance to settle and show what he can do.”

“It’s just not working out for Van de Beek. It’s a pity because United paid big money for him. But this is what happens when you spend money just to satisfy your fans. I still hope he gets a proper chance but it is going to be very difficult for him and the club may decide to cut their losses if they can.”
