The Blaugrana moved to within two points of the leaders in the league table after the hard-fought victory at Mestalla on Sunday.

Gerard Pique admits FC Barcelona “suffered a little” against Valencia but says the victory produced a confidence boost in the team.

Barcelona lost ground in the La Liga title race after suffering a surprise slip-up against Granada. However, two back-to-back wins thereafter have helped them to keep their title hopes afloat.

Lionel Messi scored twice while Antoine Griezmann also got on the scoresheet as the Catalan giants came from behind to beat Valencia 3-2 on Sunday.

Pique told Movistar post-match: “It was a similar game to Villarreal today, dominating, we had the chances … Valencia scored the first but the team was good, turned it around and we were able to control the game. A golazo from Soler meant we suffered a little at the end.”

“We would like to kill games off earlier … these are things that happen. We also have to analyze the goals. The problem is all the chances opponents have are going in, we have to analyze that.

“Thursday was completely unexpected and the defeat [against Granada] damaged us, but winning at Villarreal and Valencia was complicated and gives us confidence. We’re still competing and if you look back six months that’s an achievement.”
