From Estadio de Mestalla, we bring you all the player ratings of this La Liga clash between Valencia and Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid travelled to Valencia for yet another test in La Liga at Estadio de Mestalla. With triumph in their last five games, Diego Simeone’s men looked to add one more to the list. And a victory for Rojiblancos would take them on top of the table along with Real Sociedad. The unbeaten Atletico side, however, were missing their star striker Luis Suarez. In addition to his absence, they were forced to play without Diego Costa, Lucas Torreira, Hector Herrara, Sime Vrsaljko, and Manu Sanchez.

Valencia on the other hand struggled to get points in the Spanish League having played more games than their opponents. They desperately needed a win to boost their motivation after their latest draw against Alaves away from home. The incomplete Atletico side battled hard to keep their heads high in this Liga fixture. But with Valencia’s strong defensive unit, both the teams went into the tunnels with no goals on the scoreboard. And the only unfortunate incident occurred in the second half.

An own goal saves Simeone’s side.

Both the sides pushed for the opening goal and had clear opportunities to go ahead in the game. Even after a slow start from Atletico, they found their rhythm in the second half. Whereas, Valencia kept on defending deep towards the end of the game. Thomas Lemar nearly put the visitors in front with Marcos Llorente’s cross, but Daniel Wass denied the opportunity. Valencia’s defence line saw Wass, Hugo Guillamon, and Gabriel Paulista co-operate with each other to keep things level.

However, an unfortunate event helped Atletico escape from the local boys. Yannick Carrasco received a ball on the left flank who shot a low cross towards the six-yard box. But the speeding ball ricochets off Toni Lato to end up into the net. Simeone’s side narrowly escaped in this close game and now equal Real Sociedad with one fixture advantage. Valencia will fly to face Eibar next in La Liga and hope to get back in form.
