According to reports from Egypt, Mohamed Salah could return to Liverpool on Thursday provided he can return a negative covid-19 result.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health’s head of COVID-19, Hossam Hosny, claims Mohamed Salah can fly back to England if he returns a negative test on Thursday.

On Saturday, the Egyptian Football Association said a medical swab taken from the 28-year-old came back positive for Covid-19. However, the player did not show any symptoms.

The news came a day after it was confirmed Reds defender Joe Gomez had undergone knee surgery following an injury suffered in England training.

A positive result for Salah comes after he reportedly attended his brother’s wedding, with footage posted on social media appearing to show him dancing with other guests.

However, Hosny now says that Salah will be able to return to Merseyside if he gets a negative test on Thursday, although it is still unclear whether he would be fine to participate for Liverpool over the weekend.

“Salah is currently in El-Gouna to complete his quarantine and he will conduct another PCR test on Thursday,” Hosny explained as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“And I expect that his result will be negative because until now, the player hasn’t shown any symptoms.”

“Liverpool are communicating with us to check on Salah, and their medical staff agreed that he would travel to El-Gouna, and Salah can return to England if his test result on Thursday is negative.”

With club football set to resume, Liverpool will welcome Leicester City to Anfield on Saturday. There is now a slim chance Salah could be available for that game.
