A lack of stability has been noticed in the European & German champions’ backline lately that has undermined their 2020-21 campaign.
Bayern Munich have been advised to snap up Dayot Upamecano from rivals RB Leipzig by Markus Babbel.
Bayern dominated every single competition they played in en route to winning a historic treble in 2019-20, but their standards have slipped this season.
Hansi Flick’s men were knocked out of the DFB Pokal by 2. Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel on penalty shootouts as neither side could break the 2-2 deadlock after 120 minutes.
The match highlighted their defensive frailties – something which has troubled Die Rotten too much this season.
Bayern conceded 32 goals in their entire title-winning campaign last time out, but they have already let in 25 goals in just 16 games this term – more than any other side in the top six.
In order to solve those defensive problems, an ex-Allianz Arena defender recommends his former club to sign Upamecano, who has forged his reputation as one of the world’s finest center-back.
“You have to think about something in the defensive area,” Babbel told Sport1. “He [Upamecano] can help, those responsible must think of him.”
“The defenders need to be better, the goals conceded could be prevented. As a coach, I expect the central defenders to do better. The defenders have to learn again to recognize the danger earlier.”
