Despite being excused from international duty, Cristiano Ronaldo must isolate for at least five days before he can start training at Manchester United.
The UK Government has turned down Manchester United’s request for Cristiano Ronaldo to be exempt from self-isolation.
Three days after completing his shock return to Old Trafford, Ronaldo has arrived in Manchester. His partner, Georgina Rodriguez, has announced on Instagram that she and their young children are already in England.
Ronaldo, who will miss Portugal’s next World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan because of a suspension, will report to Manchester United earlier than planned to begin preparations for his comeback.
To help the 36-year-old avoid quarantine, United sent an elite sportsman exemption request to the Government. But it fell on deaf ears; meaning Cristiano must isolate for five days upon arriving in England from Portugal.
CR7 can still be ready to face Newcastle
Despite only having around a couple of days of training with his new team, Ronaldo should be ok to make his second United debut. The Portuguese is match-fit, having had a full pre-season at Juventus and played 90 minutes against Ireland on Wednesday.
According to MEN, Ronaldo just needs to test negative for COVID-19 on the second and fifth day of his stay in Manchester. He can then leave isolation and begin group training in Carrington early next week, possibly Tuesday or Wednesday.
So Ronaldo should still have time to prepare for the Premier League match against Newcastle on September 11.
