Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin says the single knock-out format used in this year’s Champions League edition could be retained.

This year’s edition of the UEFA Champions League brought about some exciting results.

We can agree that we might have witnessed a different turnout in some games with the usual two-legged times. Starting from the quarter-finals, all games were switched to one-legs and there was surely a difference on the pitch.

Lyon edged out Manchester City, PSG secured a last-gasp win over Atalanta too. But perhaps the most surprising result in UEFA competitions this year was the 8-2 demolition of Barcelona at the hands of Bayern Munich.

With some interesting results and a pleasant experience for fans this term, there is a possibility the new format could be retained in the future.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin admits the above and spoke on the possibility of a change in the tournament’s setup.

“We were forced to do it but in the end we see that we found out something new. So we will think about it in the future for sure,” Ceferin said as quoted by the Guardian.

He also added that without a second-leg, teams might have been forced to go all out for goals, which was exactly what happened.

“[There has been] not so much tactics. If it is one match, if one team scores then the other has to score as soon as possible. If it is two-legged system then there is still time to win the next match,” he added.

“More exciting matches for sure but of course we also have to think about the fact that we have less matches and broadcasters [can] say ‘you don’t have as many matches as before, this is different’ so we will have to discuss when this crazy situation ends.”

Later tonight, PSG will take on Bayern in the battle for UEFA’s top club competition this season.
