Due to their Super League involvement, UEFA decided to open a disciplinary file on all three rogue clubs who want to leave.
UEFA is not playing around when it comes to seeking punishment for the three clubs that remain in the rogue Super League. Aleksander Ceferin is hell-bent on making an example out of Real Madrid, Juventus, and FC Barcelona. His idea isn’t clear as to what he plans to do with these clubs in the near future. However, UEFA announced the opening of a disciplinary file on each of these clubs.
As a way to monitor everything they do in regards to this initiative, UEFA made the following announcement on Tuesday: “Following an investigation conducted by Uefa ethics and disciplinary inspectors in connection with the so-called ‘Super League’ project, disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus for a potential violation of Uefa’s legal framework. Further information will be made available in due course.”
None of the three clubs will back down.
As Florentino Perez previously announced, these three clubs are still very much involved in the Super League project. In Ceferein’s eyes, all they wanted to do was disrupt the ecosystem created by UEFA. He doesn’t care about the repercussions that his decisions to create a new format of existing competitions will bring. Players are sick and tired of not being taken into consideration, which also affects the business model.
Not having fit players is detrimental to any plan either side has for the future in football. But Ceferin doesn’t seem to care about the well-being of football’s greatest assets. It’s very possible he makes a rash decision and kicks all three clubs from competitions for the next season. But Florentino Perez must have an ace up his sleeve that we won’t know about until the last minute. This fight between UEFA and these three clubs is about to get a lot more interesting.
