The former Leverkusen man had an impactful debut season at Stamford Bridge and ended it in a winning fashion.

Thomas Tuchel is aiming for Kai Havertz to take the “next step” at Chelsea in the coming season.

Havertz joined Chelsea last summer with a reputation as one of the most exciting talents in Europe. Understandably, the weight of expectations on his shoulders was quite heavy, especially considering his sizable Β£70 price tag.

Initially, the 21-year-old struggled to settle in his new surroundings but he gradually became accustomed to it as the season progressed.

The Germany international scored nine goals in total in 2020-21, with one of those coming in the form of the match-winner in the Champions League final against Manchester City.

All in all, it turned out to be a fine debut season for Havertz, and his manager now wants him to elevate his level in his second season at the club.

“For him personally he played a good Euros. He was a threat constantly in the German team for the others to score,” Tuchel told theΒ Chelsea website.

“Of course he had an excellent ending to our season and although the German team did not do so well at the Euros, I think he can personally be satisfied with the first steps he made here in England and with the outcome for him.

“There’s things to improve, things to keep the level up high, where he can play and he proved that he can play.

“This is the next step.”
