The Chelsea boss says the midfielder is out of action due to illness.
Chelsea faces Newcastle in their next Premier League game on Saturday. The Blues are hoping to stay at the top of the table, but they have to play without a key player.
“Mason should have started but he got ill overnight and so we sent him home to London so that we can take care of him better and that he can recover better,” the Chelsea boss said on Saturday.
Mason Mount scored a hat-trick in his side’s 7-0 thrashing of Norwich City last week. He was also brought in as a substitute in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, displaying another impressive performance in midfield.
Mount’s illness adds pressure to the Chelsea squad amid an onging injury crisis. Romelu Lukaku, Mason Mount, and Matteo Kovacic are all sidelined with injuries, with N’Golo Kante finally making his return last week.
