Thomas Tuchel has reportedly set his transfer plans in motion with six targets after leading Chelsea to Champions League glory.
Despite just recently winning the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel is already planning to go one better with Chelsea next season.
The Blues boss recently revealed hopes to make around ‘two or three’ signings in the summer transfer window to bolster his squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
“Two or three [signings] could be very, very good,” he said.
“It’s a constant thing to never deny change.
“That you always bring new energy, new guys who question the old beliefs, who challenge everybody in the training and in matches, so I think it’s a good thing.”
Now Tuchel’s plans are well underway. The German met club owner Roman Abramovich for the first time on Saturday, upon winning the Champions League, and again on Sunday morning. He is now set for a new long-term contract. But it appears that is just the start of it.
According to The Telegraph, Abramovich could support the Chelsea manager in the transfer window with around a £200 million budget amid plans for a new striker, midfielder, and defender.
Tuchel has reportedly already shortlisted the following six players as potential transfer targets.
Romelu Lukaku
With a cash-strapped Inter Milan set to make some summer sales, Romelu Lukaku’s future is in doubt.
The Telegraph state that the Belgian’s agent was inside the Estadio do Dragao during Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League final.
Lukaku even recently claimed he has “nothing but love” for his former club on Twitter – so could a comeback be on? Inter are reportedly holding out for £100 million for their star striker.
Harry Kane
Despite the difficulty in tempting London rivals Tottenham into a deal, Chelsea haven’t given up on Harry Kane.
The 27-year-old is considering a summer exit from Spurs. As he enters his peak years, joining a title-contending club for all major competitions is an option – and Chelsea would certainly fit the bill for that one.
Adama Traore
Tuchel’s most surprising transfer target is perhaps Adama Traore.
Despite Reece James impressing down the flanks, Tuchel wants to add some competition. He believes Wolves star Traore is ideally suited to provide an attacking threat as a wing-back.
Jonas Hofmann
Chelsea and Tottenham have both reportedly expressed an interest in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder.
Hofmann has two years left on his current contract, could be available for around €15 million, and is allegedly open to the idea of joining a new club in the summer.
The 28-year-old could be a useful utility player after playing as a central midfielder, winger, and striker last season.
Declan Rice
The West Ham midfielder was a top target for Tuchel’s predecessor, Frank Lampard. The former Chelsea boss recently admitted his interest in Declan Rice, but added a deal could not be done last year for ‘various reasons’.
It’s emerged, though, that Tuchel rates Rice very highly as well and has made him a top midfield target.
Aurelien Tchouameni
The AS Monaco midfielder is seen as a cheaper alternative to Rice as West Ham are reportedly seeking around £100 million for their prized asset.
Although Tuchel ‘will prioritise quality over quantity’, suggesting a move for Tchouameni is an unlikely prospect.
