Thomas Tuchel is counting on Julian Draxler to become a key player for Paris Saint-Germain despite being uncertain of his future at the club.

Julian Draxler played a bit-part role in Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 title-winning campaign in 2019/20, taking in just 11 appearances.

With his place in the starting XI increasingly fading under Thomas Tuchel, Draxler has been linked with a move away from PSG in recent times.

L’Equipe reported that the French champions are looking to include the midfielder in a deal to sign Matteo Guendouzi from Arsenal this summer.

Leeds United emerged as another candidate interested in him, with reputed journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi reporting that the newly-promoted Premier League side have already held discussions over his transfer.

The 26-year old German international, though, who has one year left to run on his current contract, is said to be unwelcoming towards the idea of leaving Parc des Princes.

Thomas Tuchel was asked to comment on Draxler’s situation amid all the transfer speculations.

“It’s football, we can’t guarantee anything. During the transfer window, we can’t guarantee things because maybe the next day things will be different,” Tuchel replied, as per Goal.

Tuchel then went on to praise Draxler after he scored the last-gasp winning goal in Wednesday’s Ligue 1 match against Metz.

“Draxler has quality, for sure,” he added. “He scored the goal. He ran a lot. He showed a good mentality. If he keeps playing with this mentality, he can be a very important player for us. I always count on him.”
