The Blues academy product has not been awarded a new and improved contract since his breakthrough with the club last season.

Thomas Tuchel says he is uninformed regarding Tammy Abraham’s contract situation at Chelsea.

Abraham is Chelsea’s top scorer this season, having found the back of the net 12 times across all competitions.

The 23-year-old proved to be a quality addition to the Blues squad last season upon returning to the club after the end of his loan spell at Aston Villa as he netted 18 times in 47 games across all competitions.

Impressed by his progress, the London side activated a clause to extend the England international’s contract by another year in July 2020.

The striker has almost two and a half years remaining on his current contract, but there have been talks that he is deserving of a new deal with improved terms.

“I’m not aware of the contract situations of my players because I don’t want to be involved with judging this when I’m making the decisions of who’s playing and who’s not,” said Tuchel, via Goal.

“I like that he made his way on the loans and overcame obstacles in his career when he went on loan. He always scored for his teams. He was always there.

“He has the spirit to make it at Chelsea. This is one of the toughest challenges you can face but he is ready for that.

“He was absolutely ready to suffer and for that, he has all my credit. It’s a good new start for him to step up and show that he is important for us.”
