The midfielder picked up a minor knock in the Blues’ Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa last month and has been out of action since.

Mason Mount is fit to feature in Chelsea’s match against Southampton on Saturday, Thomas Tuchel has confirmed.

Mount missed Chelsea’s Premier League meeting with Manchester City and Champions League clash with Juventus due to thigh problem.

The 22-year-old has been a pivotal presence in Tuchel’s team in recent times, and his absence was clearly felt as the Blues lost both their previous games.

The news of the Englishman’s call-up by his national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary gave rise to hopes he’s nearing full – and his club manager has now confirmed that is indeed the case.

“Mason is in the squad, Mason is back. It was not a long injury, and we are happy he is back,” Tuchel told at his pre-match press conference.

On how much Chelsea missed Mount, the manager added: “We need to be careful.

“We took him out at half-time against Tottenham because he had a rough half, and everyone was talking about us being good in the second half when he wasn’t on the pitch. Suddenly he’s missing and now he’s the one.

“It’s not on single players. Of course we want to have Mason, and we know the energy he gives, and of course we miss him, but we cannot start reducing our performances to the players who are missing.”
