Former Bayer Leverkusen boss Tayfun Korkut admits that a change in the Chelsea management will unlock Kai Havertz’s potential.

Thomas Tuchel could change things for Kai Havertz at Chelsea, according to Tayfun Korkut. It has been evident that the young starlet has found it difficult to mark himself in the Premier League. But with the help of his fellow countryman, Havertz could see positive evolution ahead. The 21-year-old made a move to Stamford Bridge for £72 million during the summer transfer window in 2020. And the substantial investment put pressure on Havertz as he struggled to meet expectations.

Along with injuries, the pandemic situation did not help the German international to build his prospect in the English top-flight. Frank Lampard, on the other hand, could not light the spark that the youngster possesses. But the new addition Tuchel could mean that the countrymen could provide Chelsea with the firepower needed.

The German connection.

Former Bayer Leverkusen coach Korkut told Sky Sports: “Thomas should be good for him because of the style of play but also because of the language. We can talk a lot about tactics but the human being is more than the tactics. Thomas can help him because he knows him very well and will know how to handle him. He has worked at PSG and Dortmund with players of a similar style. If you remember Lampard as a player, he was quite different from Kai.

“He was more emotional and maybe he felt that was missing in Kai. Sometimes the coach has to adapt to the player as well. But I think Thomas can help him. Maybe this is the turning point. “Kai is different. Kai needs more, even if he seems really cool. The position is not the major issue with Kai because he can play on the right or in the middle. The more important thing is that he needs someone to support him at this moment when he is struggling. People are expecting big things and it is not so easy. He needs confidence.”
