The Blues boss has made a comparison between his veteran striker Giroud and Manchester United’s Cavani ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel believes Olivier Giroud and Edinson Cavani’s fitness levels and self-discipline are key factors behind their impressive form.

The veteran strikers, who are both 34 years of age, have made decisive impacts in the Premier League this season. Giroud even scored a brilliant overhead kick on Tuesday to bag Chelsea a 1-0 Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.

And while Manchester United’s Cavani is doubtful for the trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Tuchel holds his former Paris Saint-Germain striker in a very high regard alongside Giroud.

The German pointed out how both players are similar in their fitness, selfless attitude, and ability to stay composed in the box to finish scoring opportunities.

“Look at them and when they switch shirt, they are totally fit,” said Tuchel as quoted by Football London.

“Oli is 100 per cent fit, zero body fat, same as Edi. He is a player like Oli who, as a number nine, is always concerned about the team, suffers for the team, always ready to run open spaces and defend for the whole team.

“Then in the box they are both excellent finishers, they have the composure.

“They are top quality strikers, top quality number nines and for me, their fitness and self-discipline are key to their success.”
