A perfect start to the new league campaign for the Parisians, who came from behind to leave with all three points in the bag.
Paris Saint-Germain beat newly promoted Troyes 2-1 at Stade de l’Aube in their first match of the 2021-22 Ligue 1 campaign.
While the result wasn’t as good as it should’ve been, there were plenty of positives to take away from the match for Mauricio Pochettino.
To begin with, summer signing Achraf Hakimi put in a good shift while also got on the scoresheet to hit the ground running at his new club. Hakimi found the equalizer with a smashing right-footed volley into the far corner of the net from a difficult angle after Oualid El Hajjam had handed Troyes the lead inside the first 10 minutes.
Secondly, Mauro Icardi seems to have re-found his finishing touch as he was also on target, scoring stylishly with the outside of his boot to complete the comeback
On the flip side, Pochettino might be worried by his team’s somewhat sloppy play, especially in the second half – but the star-studded PSG side will surely pick up momentum as the season progresses.
