The Catalans get one step closer toward signing the Bayern striker this summer.

Robert Lewandowski has confirmed he will leave Allianz Arena this summer.

The Polish striker was speaking in an interview after his side’s last game of the season, which ended in a 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg.

Lewa scored his 35th Bundesliga goal of the season to claim yet another top-scorer prize at the German top-flight. However, it seems that we have witnessed the 33-year-old’s last appearance in Bayern’s jersey.

“I can confirm that I spoke to Hasan [Salihamidzic] and informed him that the decision was made… and that I am not extending my contract with FC Bayern,” Lewandowski told Sky after the game.

He added: “Both sides have to think about the future. It’s best if we find the best solution for both sides.

“I said [Salihamidzic] that if an offer comes, then we have to think about it – also for the club. Both sides have to think about the future. That’s all I can say.”

Speaking before the game, Bayern director Hasan Salihamdzic also confirmed Lewa’s decision to leave Allianz Arena.

“I spoke to Lewa. In the conversation, he told me that he did not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that he would like to leave the club,” Bayern director of football Hasan Salihamidzic told Sky Sport Germany.

“He said that he would like to do something else. But our attitude hasn’t changed.

“Lewa has a contract until June 30, 2023. That’s a fact. I don’t deal with that because our stance has always been clear.”

Barcelona are the frontrunners to sign Lewandowski in the upcoming transfer window.

Following a failed attempt to add Erling Haaland to their ranks, the Catalans are reportedly considering Lewa as their next transfer target for the number nine position.

Let’s see if Bayern’s statement will tempt other clubs to join the race for the experienced striker.
