The summer signing’s untimely absence has been a massive blow to the Spurs in recent weeks.
James Maddison quickly became one of Tottenham’s best performers after completing a summer move from Leicester City.
The England international registered five assists and three goals in his 11 Premier League appearances for the Spurs before suffering an ankle injury against Chelsea in early November. Another key absentee is Micky Van de Ven, who picked up a thigh injury in the same match.
Asked about the pair’s fitness status, manager Ange Postecoglou said on Friday: “Neither of them are anywhere near training with the first team at the moment. Micky might be just ahead of schedule in terms of with Madders.
“Both [return] kind of January and [Rodrigo] Bentancur fairly similar. Until I see them out with us, it’s hard for me to say.”
Tottenham started the 2023-24 campaign with a string of fantastic performances in the Premier League. However, squad problems saw Postecoglou’s side slip to the fifth spot on the table in early December. In addition to Maddison and Van de Van, the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Manor Solomon, and Ivan Perisic are also unavailable with injuries.
Following back-to-back wins over Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, Spurs will take on Everton in their next league game on Saturday.
