Despite the 27-year-old’s return, however, Spurs struggled to break down West Brom. In typical Sam Allardyce-fashion, the visitor’s favored quantity over quality by using their numbers to limit space in their backline. It worked a treat and kept the scoreline goalless.
Spurs had many opportunities to break the deadlock through Kane and even Serge Aurier. But to their credit, West Brom held on and nearly nicked a first-half lead only for Hugo Lloris to deny Mbaye Diagne – although it was later ruled offside.
Allardyce’s resolute defense, however, shattered in the second half. A refreshed-looking Spurs quickly got off the mark, with Kane sneaking in behind to fire Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s pass into the goal in the 54th-minute.
Then, just four minutes later, Son doubled the Lilywhites’ lead after a brilliant counter. Lucas Moura was the assist provider this time. The Brazilian sprinted into the West Brom half before setting the ball up for Son to smash home.
36% – Only Callum Wilson (40%) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (38%) have scored a higher portion of their team’s Premier League goals this season than Spurs duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min (13/36 each – 36%). Dynamic. #TOTWBA pic.twitter.com/nR4L2e1lVn

And while West Brom were left to rue their luck by two disallowed goals for Diagne due to the offside ruling, Spurs did enough to claim a first league double over the Baggies since 2011/12.
Mourinho’s men, who have won just three of their last 11 league games, move up to seventh in the Premier League and 24 points above West Brom, who remain second-bottom in 19th-place.
