The Foxes spring to the second position in the league table as Spurs lose more ground in the title race after a second successive defeat.

Jamie Vardy‘s strike from the penalty spot late in the first half and an own goal from Toby Alderweireld after the break helped Leicester City secure all three points against Tottenham.

Spurs thought they’d go into the second half with things still under control but a mistake from Serge Aurier inside his penalty area saw them on the wrong end of the scoreline right before the half-time whistle.

It took VAR’s help for the referee, who had initially allowed the play to go on, to award Leicester a penalty after Wesley Fofana was brought down inside the box by Aurier.

Vardy then stepped up and smashed the ball into the net to score his 11th league goal of the season.

The 2019 Premier League Golden Boot winner is now level with Son Heung-min, Mohamed Salah, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the top of the goalscoring charts.

Right before the hour-mark, the visiting side doubled their lead. Alderweireld slotted the ball into his own net while attempting and failing to try and clear out Vardy’s header after a Marc Albrighton cross.

The 2-0 result moves Leicester to second place in the table, four points behind Liverpool at 27.

Spurs, meanwhile, slipped to fourth.
