Inter Milan made no secret of their interest in Tanguy Ndombele over the summer but they failed to get the Tottenham man.
Ndombele went through a tough past few months at Tottenham.
After Jose Mourinho initially took over from Mauricio Pochettino last November, he axed a couple of players from the Spurs XI.
Danny Rose was one of the players to suffer this fate and it was not long before Ndombele suffered the same fate.
Jose Mourinho publicly slated the Frenchman and was critical of his work rate and what he offered in a Tottenham jersey.
It was not long before reports started to hint at a possible exit for Ndombele who happens to be Spurs’ record signing.
Inter did make one or two attempts to sign the midfielder. Antonio Conte is reportedly a fan of the player. After multiple attempts, a deal never materialized.
Ndombele has now turned things around and has seen ample game time of late under Mourinho. He explains why a move to Inter was never really close to happening.
“The President said no [to Inter],” Ndombele said as quoted by Football-Italia. “He wanted me to stay and I wanted to give more than the previous season.”
“Mourinho and I put misunderstandings behind us and the results are there to be seen.”
“I’ve proved [José] Mourinho we are motivated, that’s all that matters. Things are going well with the coach, everyone has put his ego on one side.”
All now appears to be well and fine between Ndombele and Mourinho and the chapter of his exit talk is all in the past.
