The Roma manager is eyeing a winter move for one of his former players.

Tottenham defender Eric Dier has emerged on Roma’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.

Dier hasn’t played a single minute for the Spurs this season after slipping down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou. It seems that Roma is ready to offer the 29-year-old a move away from the London side.

According to Sports Witness, Dier is Jose Mourinho’s favourite choice to bolster Roma’s defence line in January. The English star’s stance on a move abroad, however, is still unclear.

Tottenham have shown excellent defensive stability under Postecoglou this season. The Spurs manager has mostly used Christian Romero and Micky van de Ven at the heart of his side’s backline.

Given Tottenham’s elimination in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, Dier’s playing chances don’t look great for the remainder of the season. The Spurs might be open to selling Dier on a permanent deal ahead of his contract expiry next summer.

Since joining Tottenham from Sporting Lisbon in 2014, Dier has made a total of 360 appearances for the club, registering 13 goals and 12 assists.

The Spurs, who went into the international debut as Premier League leaders, will continue their campaign with a match against Fulham next Monday.
