The Brazil international is under pressure to cover for Harry Kane’s departure this season.

Richarlison’s performance for Tottenham shouldn’t be judged only by goals, according to manager Ange Postecoglu.

The Brazilian striker struggled to reach his best form in his debut campaign at Tottenham last season. Following Harry Kane‘s exit, Richarlison has come under more pressure to become Spurs’ main goalscorer.

The 26-year-old was upset when Postecoglu subbed him off for Ivan Perisic against Manchester United. But the new Spurs manager says he was satisfied by Richarlison’s performance.

“I don’t think he was frustrated with his performance,” Postecoglu told reporters. “I think he was maybe a little bit disappointed by a couple of things that didn’t fall his way. But I thought his performance was very good on the day.”

He added: “People look at outcomes and with strikers it is about goals and nothing else.

I am sure Richy wants to score goals but far more important for me is how he is contributing to our team set-up and I thought he was good last weekend. From my perspective that is the key thing and I am sure the goals will come, but there is no point getting the goals if the team is not performing.”

Tottenham will face Bournemouth in their next league match before taking on Fulham in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
