The Spurs will have a key defender back for their upcoming FA Cup match against Burnley.
Micky van de Ven is ready to make his return to Tottenham’s squad, according to Ange Postecoglou.
Van de Ven has stayed out of action since picking up a hamstring injury in his side’s 4-1 defeat against Chelsea in early November. The Dutchman’s return is a major squad boost for the Spurs, who have been dealing with personnel issues in their backline recently.
“Micky has trained this week. He’s been involved for three sessions,” Postecoglou told a press conference ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup match against Burnley.
“Not sure about tomorrow’s game, but he might be involved in the squad. It’s good to get him back. Obviously, he’s missed a fair bit so we’ll have to be careful with him.”
Van de Ven could make his comeback against Burnley on Thursday. He is expected to regain full fitness by the time the Spurs take on United on January 14.
Tottenham, however, won’t have Alejo Veliz at their disposal for a few months. The young forward, who was set to gain more playing time in Son Heung-min’s absence, suffered a knee injury in Tottenham’s win over Bournemouth over the weekend.
Postecoglou added on Veliz: “It doesn’t look like he’ll need surgery, but it’ll be a couple of months which is disappointing because he worked really hard for his opportunity.”
