The Spurs want to bolster their backline after a host of underwhelming displays in the first half of the season.

Tottenham have reportedly inquired Sporting Lisbon about a possible move for Pedro Porro.

Since leaving Manchester City, Porro has established himself as a key player at Sporting. The Spanish right-back has started all of his new side’s matches, registering one goal and nine assists.

The player might now return to the Premier League, with Tottenham being keen to add him to their squad.

According to 90min, Porro has replaced Denzel Dumfries as Tottenham’s main target for the right-back position.

The Spurs signed Djed Spence in the summer, while Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty can both play at right-back. However, Antonio Conte reportedly prefers to have a more reliable player in the position.

Emerson has suffered a steady dip in form, gradually losing his place in Conte’s lineup. The Italian boss hoped to have Dumfries at his disposal after the World Cup.

But the tough race to sign the Inter star has convinced Conte to look for another option. Porro is an ideal target as he is already familiar with Premier League football.

The 23-year-old has a £40m release clause in his Sporting CP contract. However, widespread reports in Portuguese media claim Man City have a buy-back clause that enables them to secure Porro’s services for £17m.
