Everton supporters labeled Harry Kane a cheat for his role in Abdoulaye Doucoure’s sending-off during Monday night’s Premier League clash.
Interim Tottenham manager Cristian Stellini has dismissed claims over Harry Kane’s role in Abdoulaye Doucoure’s dismissal, insisting the Everton midfielder deserved his red card.
In the 58th minute of Monday’s 1-1 draw between Everton and Tottenham, Doucoure got a straight red after hitting Kane in the face during a challenge for the ball.
The incident dropped Everton down to 10 men and the fans were far from impressed, chanting that Kane was a ‘cheater’.
“The fan [reaction] is normal,” Stellini, who took charge of his game as interim coach following Antonio Conte’s exit, said.
“They are unhappy, but in my opinion it was a clear red card. It happens sometimes, it’s normal.”
Spurs fail to hold off 10-man Everton
For Stellini, the biggest concern was how his side threw the game away. 10 minutes after Doucoure’s dismissal, Kane fired home a penalty. However, Lucas Moura got sent off in the 88th minute, before Michael Keane’s late strike split the points at Goodison Park.
“The approach of the game was good. The only problem?” Stellini said.
“When you find the way to score, and you are leading the game 1-0, you have one extra player, you have to be much more lucid in the way you keep the ball.”
Despite the two lost points, Tottenham still took fourth place away from Manchester United in the Premier League by a superior goal difference.
