The north Londoners are rebuilding under new manager Ange Postecoglou after a disappointing 2022/23 campaign.

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is set to undergo a medical at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, according to Sky Sports.

Tottenham have agreed on a transfer fee of around £40 million with Leicester. Newcastle were also interested in Maddison, but they have shifted their attention to AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.

Newcastle’s changed stance has paved the way for Tottenham to complete a deal. Improving their midfield options is a priority ahead of the upcoming season. Under new manager Ange Postecoglou, Spurs hope to return to Europe after a dismal eighth-place Premier League finish in 2022/23.

This summer, Tottenham have already signed Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in a £17.2 million deal. They also made Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus permanent. Pedro Porro, who arrived on loan from Sporting CP in January, will join on a full-time basis as well.
