The north Londoners have welcomed Djed Spence to the fold as their sixth signing of the summer.

Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence has joined Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £20 million.

The 21-year-old, who is Spurs’ sixth transfer of the summer, has signed a contract until 2027. He joins the club after an impressive 2021/22 campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest. His displays down the right flank helped the Championship side win promotion to the Premier League and reach the FA Cup quarter-finals, earning him a big money move to north London.

Spurs will reportedly pay Middlesbrough £12.5 million upfront for Spence and a further £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons.

‘It is a dream come true’

Speaking to the club’s media for the first time as a Spurs player, Spence said: “To play in the Premier League and for a big club like Tottenham, it’s a dream come true.

“I’m thankful I’m here and I’ve got the opportunity to play for the club. It’s a privilege to be here. I can’t wait to meet the players, the staff and obviously the manager and train with the team.

“I’m a very chilled character. I’m very humble. Everything is about football with me. I’ve dedicated my whole life to it. I’ll bring excitement, skill, and speed. I just want to excite the fans and play well.”

How else has joined Tottenham?

Spence is the sixth player to join Antonio Conte’s side this summer after Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, and Clement Lenglet.

Tottenham have changed tack in the transfer window after qualifying for the Champions League last season. They’ve moved quickly to build a squad capable of competing for titles in 2022/23.

The Lilywhites return to action this Saturday for a friendly against Rangers in Glasgow.
