Spurs claimed a hard-fought victory to reach the fourth spot on the Premier League table.
Tottenham defeated Everton 2-1 in their Premier League game on Saturday. A brilliant attacking display in the first half ensured Spurs’ victory on home soil.
What happened?
Tottenham’s fantastic start to the game saw them score an early opener through Richarlison in the ninth minute. The Brazilian striker converted a perfect low cross from Brennan Johnson to register his fourth goal of the season for Spurs.
Only ten minutes later, Son Heung-min doubled the hosts’ lead when he converted a rebound from Dejan Kulusevski’s shot inside the box. The Toffees had several chances to get back into the game before the break. However, brilliant saves from Vicario prevented Dominik Calvert-Lewin and James Garner from finding the back of the net.
Everton’s pressure grew at the beginning of the second half while Tottenham looked to kill the game off through counter-attacks. The visitors finally made it 2-1 when Andre Gomes rifled a precise low shot from inside the box to get his side back into the game.
Using their momentum, the Toffees put Tottenham under immense pressure in the final ten minutes, forcing several excellent saves out of Vicario. However, they weren’t able to snatch the equalizer as they suffered their first defeat in five EPL matches.
